Live Fashion Illustrations for s.Oliver

Very excited about my recent commission to illustrate the models at s.Oliver’s in-house fashion show live as it was happening on September 18th! This special collaboration includes the live fashion illustrations and portraits of select personalities of the German fashion company headquartered in Rottendorf. Here showcased are a few snapshots of the resulting live action drawings and the scene at the event.

Drawing at the Annual Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center Fundraiser Gala

On August 24th I was commissioned to illustrate live the glitzy performances of Cincinnati artists including wigmaker Stacey Vest and the performance group Forealism Tribe, all the while portraying VIP sponsors by appointment at the gala's cocktail hour. The ones who opted for a drawing got to take home an exclusive memento of the fabulous evening while the other guests could experience the process as it was happening!

Sketching Tziporah Salamon at the Cincinnati Art Museum

I had a blast sketching the energetic fashion performance of the New York style icon Tziporah Salamon yesterday at the Cincinnati Art Museum. What a fun and fabulous event this was! The performance was preceded by a private Sunday cocktail reception and followed by a lovely seated luncheon at the museum. Invited by chief curator Cynthia Amneus and the event sponsor Moe Rouse I was able to capture the action straight from the front row.

This was also the first time using my spanking new 12.9–inch iPad Pro with Procreate illustration software. You can view a selection of the resulting instant sketches in the above slide show. Let me know what you think!

'A sketchbook as a diary' Publication Launch at Copyright Bookshop in Antwerp

A few photos from the launch of my new limited edition publication 'A sketchbook as a diary' by Stockmans at the Copyright Bookshop in Antwerp with live illustrations, Finnish vodka, and wonderful hors d'oeuvres prepared by Hilde of Copyright. Among the guests that struck a pose for me was the amazing Belgian top model Anouck Lepère — it was such fun creating her portrait and a great honor! Big thanks to Copyright, Stockmans, and everyone that came by, a few copies are still available at Copyright — get yours while the supply lasts!

Capturing Diane Pernet at the ASVOFF Screening, MFA Boston

Got a chance to capture the energy of the fashion icon Diane Pernet yesterday at her A Shaded View on Fashion Film screening at MFA Boston yesterday! I had the honor to meet her the first time in 2007 at the Noovo fashion festival in Santiago de Compostela and since then she has featured my work a couple of times on her website A Shaded View on Fashion. Really stoked to see her again in Boston and wishing her safe travels back to Paris!

ESSENTIEL ANTWERP X DESIGNERS AGAINST AIDS COLLECTION LAUNCH

New live portrait drawing event, commissioned by Essentiel Antwerp for the ESSENTIEL ANTWERP X DESIGNERS AGAINST AIDS Collection Private Launch Party.

The party was held at the chique pop–up space A–TOWER in Antwerp and my task was to capture the essence of invited personalities including members of press and celebrities from Belgium and around. The drawing performance itself generated a great deal of excitement, and the brave ones who stroke a pose will receive the original drawing as a truly unique and exclusive keepsake — courtesy of ESSENTIEL ANTWERP and DESIGNERS AGAINST AIDS.

A few photos from the opening of the New Nordic Fashion Illustration Vol. 2 exhibition opening at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design. If you happen to be in the area I really recommend visiting the exhibition. It is really well done, very impactful and provides a very nice look of the many types and styles of contemporary fashion illustration. For me this was also an amazing opportunity to meet my fashion illustrator colleagues whose work I have been following for years, but didn't know personally. Everyone was really friendly and enthusiastic to connect with each other - almost like a family getting together after a long time!

American Illustration 34 SELECTED Winner!

My live portrait illustration of Diane von Furstenberg at the backstage of her spring-summer 2015 show has been SELECTED to appear in the American Illustration 34 annual award book.

This year’s distinguished jury included Lindsay Ballant, former Creative Director, Foreign Policy; Sarah Garcea, Art Director, Inc. Magazine; Walter Green, Art Director, Lucky Peach; Anne Ishii, Owner, MASSIVE GOODS; Wyatt Mitchell, Creative Director, The New Yorker; Oliver Munday, Graphic Designer, Knopf/Pantheon Books; and Eric Skillman, Graphic Designer, Criterion Collection.

Thanks to all the judges! The book will be distributed worldwide in November 2015.
